    IRREVERSIBLE: STRAIGHT CUT

Part of a showcase of the French films that explored excessive violence around the turn of the 21st century, this is Gasper Noé’s new version of his great 2002 film. The original told the story in segments that went in reverse chronological order, from a series of violent events to the peaceful origins of the couple at the center of the story. Now Noé has rearranged the story in chronological order. I loved the original so I’m excited to see if this radical experiment in editing works!

The festival also includes several sidebars, such as “The Gates Of Hell And Beyond: A Lucio Fulci Retrospective,” featuring several of the Italian horror master’s works including a version of his classic 1981 film “Beyond” with a new score by the original composer. Also a selection of LGBTQ horror films and several showcases of shorts, including a “Home Invasion” set of shorts directed by Brooklyn filmmakers. The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival will be held October 13-20. Go here for more info and to buy tickets and passes.
